'On the 11th August, 1918, during the operations on the SOMME, this man's Company occupied advanced post near the village of MERICOURT SUR SOMME. One of the Officers was badly wounded by enemy snipers and Private RIDDLE, A company stretcher bearer together with Private GARLAND went forward across the open and dressed the Officers wounds and then brought him back to the post in spite of the fire directed on them by enemy snipers.'
