'At HARBONNIERES, East of VILLERS-BRETONNEUX on 9th August 1918 this soldier did conspicuously good work as a stretcher-bearer. During the advance under heavy shell and machine gun fire on VAUVILLERS. He worked continuously for thirty hours under the most trying conditions, carrying wounded to a place of safety. His conduct and devotion to duty were a great example to the other stretcher bearers and are deserving of special recognition.'
