Distinguished Conduct Medal

'When, in the attack on Montbrehain, on 5 October, 1918, his platoon and company commanders had become casualties, he showed great gallantry and able leadership. Finding the advance hung up, he went forward under heavy machine gun fire and selected the positions for posts to be established. He next supervised the establishment of these posts and the consolidation of the line.'
