'On night of 7th/8th August, 1918, east of BOUZENCOURT, near ALBERT, this N.C.O. was in charge of a party constructing a pontoon bridge accross the SOMME. In spite of heavy shell fire, Corporal RIPPER continued the construction of the bridge, moored a raft with great difficulty, and successfully completed his task. His conduct was excellent and throughout, he set a splendid example to his men.'
