On 4 August 1961 Roach wrote to Base Records that ge wished to have his service listed under 'under my correct name - Michael Fitzpatrick'. Base Reords replied, 17 August 1961: 'This Office cannot supply you with any evidence to show that you served as Michael FITZPATRICK, as your entire service during the 1914/18 War was under the name of Michael ROACH, and also it is noted that a Stautory Declaration received in November 1940 was signed by you under the latter name [and in which he gave his date of birth as 13 November 1881].'
