'In the operations of 21st September, 1918, near HARGICOURT, Private ROACH rendered valuable assistance in attending the wounded at the Battalion R.A.P. which was established well forward in an open trench. Though harrassed all day by shell fire he persisted with untiring zeal and with absolute disregard of personal danger moved about the area dressing the wounds of many out in the open where they feel. Throughout the attack his conduct was noticeable for his courageous devotion to duty.'
