Military Medal

'At PASSCHENDAELE RIDGE, north east of ZONNEBEKE on the 12th October, 1917. For gallantry and devotion to duty. During the attack this N.C.O. at great personal risk established a post on extreme left flank of Company frontage to guard against every approach along Railway line. This action dealt effectively with a group of enemy snipers who had been posted in an infilading position further down the line in rear. He displayed a striking example to the men under him by his coolness courage and smartness in grasping different situations and placing his men in the best suitable positions. He rendered valuable assistance in organising the Garrison in original frontline after the retirement. He carried on for several hours after being wounded and had to be ordered to evacuate.'
