Military Medal

'Stretcher bearer, for coolness and devotion to duty shown by him on the 23rd November, 1916, while carrying a wounded man from GREASE TRENCH, near GUEUDECOURT, to the support trench. Owing to there being no communication trench the wounded had to be carried overland and on this occasion the sniping was bad. Though wounded by a sniper he stuck to his job and succeeded in getting the wounded man back to the support trench.'
