War service: Egypt, Western Front

Taken on strength, 1st Training Bn, Tel el Kebir, 16 April 1916. Transferred to and taken on strength, 53rd Bn, Tel el Kebir, 20 April 1916.

Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 19 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 28 June 1916.

Reported missing in action, France, 19 July 1916. Court of Enquiry, convened by CO 53rd Bn and held in the field, 2 September 1917, concluded soldier was killed in action, 19 July 1916.

Medals: British War Medal, Victory Medal

Father wrote to Secretary, Department of Defence, 14 February 1917, 'Could you inform me as to the actual truth of my son ?'

Mother wrote to Base Records, 1921, 'I have never had any letter as regards my son's burial.'
