'At MORLANCOURT on night 28/29th July 1918 he displayed conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty. This soldier was a volunteer Stretcher Bearer from Headquarters Details and worked throughout our attack and capture of enemy system, constantly under heavy shell and Machine Gun fire. Without rest and under great difficulties he laboured on until all the wounded had been brought in. He showed a total disregard of danger and continued his duties of carrying in wounded during the following day. He displayed courage and devotion to duty.'
