War service: Egypt, Gallipoli Taken on strength, 1st Bn, Gallipoli, 3 May 1915. On Command, Divisional Engineers, 19 July 1915. Transferred to Divisional Engineers, 5 August 1915; transferred to 2nd Field Company Engineers as Sapper, and allotted Regimental Number 416, 6 August 1915. Wounded in action, 15 August 1915 (bomb wound, head and ear), and admitted to 1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station; transferred to Mudros, and then to Mena House Hospital, Egypt, 30 August 1915; to Montazah Convalescent Home, 25 September 1915. Commenced return to Australia from Suez on board HT 'Wandilla', 13 December 1915 (gun shot wound, mastoid region); discharged, Sydney, 5 April 1916.
