Medals |
Military Medal 'For most conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the operations against the HINDENBURG LINE on 18th September 1918. He was in charge of two Vickers machine guns, and when the 14th Battalion was held up by intense enemy machine gun fire he engaged these guns until they were silenced and so enabled the advance to be continued. On another occasion the enemy was observed preparing to remove field guns, and Sergeant ROSS utilised his guns so effectively that the enemy abandoned their guns and later they fell into our hands. This N.C.O. displayed great courage leadership, and initiative and was personally regardless of danger. His conduct was a splendid example to his men and his resourcefulness greatly assisted the advance of the 14th Battalion.'
