Military Medal 'This man, a Signaller, is brought to notice for gallantry and devotion to duty on the morning of the 5th April 1918, when the enemy attacked the Battalion centre near HEBUTERNE. The enemy barrage was put down about 4.30 p.m., and from that time on until 11 a.m. the keeping of communication between Battalion Headquarters and the front line was a most difficult problem. Regardless of personal risk Private ROWE went up and down the telephone lines, repairing breaks, again and again passing through heavily barraged areas. When the first attack developed at 9.30 a.m. after a few minutes violent bombardment, every line was found to be cut. ROWE, with fine initiative go a Lucas Lamp working and despite the fact that he had to expose himself to severe shell fire whilst doing so, succeeded in flashing back word of the attack to Battalion Headquarters. He is strongly recommended for distinction.'
