Found guilty, Brightlingsea, 3 January 1917, of being absent without leave from midnight, 26 December 1916, until 5 pm, 2 January 1917: awarded 7 days' Field Punishment No 2; forfeited a total of 14 days' pay.

Proceeded overseas to France, 26 January 1917; taken on strength, 15th Field Company Engineers, 12 February 1917.

Found guilty, 15 July 1917, of conduct to the prejudice of good order and military discipline in that when warned for picquet he failed to report at the time appointed, 14 July 1917: awarded 7 days' Field Punishment No 2.

Detached for duty to 1 Anzac Headquarters, 13 August 1917.

On leave to United Kingdom, 4 December 1917; rejoined unit from leave, 18 December 1917.

Admitted to 2nd Australian Casualty Clearing Station, 8 January 1918 (deafness); transferred to 56th General Hospital, 10 January 1918; to 6th Convalescent Depot, 17 January 1918; discharged to Base Depot, Etaples, 19 January 1918.

Admitted to 2nd General Hospital, Havre. 27 January 1918 (otitis media); transferred to No 4 Convalescent Depot, 4 February 1918; to Base Depot, Rouelles, 19 February 1918; rejoined 15th Field Company Engineers, 1 March 1918.
