Embarked from Adelaide, 10 February 1917; disembarked Devonport, England, 2 May 1917, and taken on strength, 13th Training Bn, Codford. Proceeded overseas to France via Folkstone, 6 August 1917.

Taken on strength, 50th Bn, 25 August 1917. Wounded in action, 26 September 1917. Admitted to 7th Canadian General Hospital, Etaples, 28 September 1917 (gun shot wound, left leg). Transferred to Royal Surrey Hospital, Guildford, 10 October 1917 (amputation); transferred to 2nd Auxiliary Hospital, Southall, 6 November 1917. Granted furlough, 29 January to 9 February 1918; to report to 2nd Auxiliary Hospital. Discharged to Depot, 15 February 1918.

Disembarked in Melbourne, 16 April 1918; discharged (medically unfit), 1 May 1918. Granted a pension of ₤3 per fortnight from 2 May 1918. Total war service: 1 year 149 days (of which 1 year 66 days were abroad).
