Military Medal 'In the bombardment preceding the attack by the enemy on this Battalion's position in front of Reincourt on 15.5.1917 Private Russell remained at his post of duty in an advanced sentry group until he was seriously wounded. The rest of the group were either killed or wounded. This post was the most bombarded place in the line, also one of the most important. Private Russell was wounded just prior to the attack. He set a splendid example to his section under the most trying difficulties.'
