Military Medal 'At WESTHOEK, prior to the attack on 20th September 1917 while his Battalion was holding the line on the Divisional front, he carried out his duties as a telephone linesman in a splendid manner. The wires were constantly being cut by the enemy bombardments in retaliation for our heavy Artillery preparations. This N.C.O. on the night of 18th/19th instant and again on night of 19th/20th instant worked all night under heavy fire mending breaks and re-establishing forward communications. His good work in this direction proved of material assistance to his Commanding Officer in enabling him to keep acquainted with the situation in the front line.'
