'At BULLECOURT on the morning of the 12th May. Sergeant Lewis Henry RYALL displayed conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty. he rendered invaluable assistance when under very heavy shell fire and showed great initiative in re-organising his men after casualties occurred. His conduct set a fine example to his men and inspired them under the most trying conditions. He performed consistently good work throughout the operations. His courage and devotion to duty deserves special recognition.'
