War service: Egypt, Western Front Admitted to Helouan Convalescent Hospital, 6 December 1915 (debility); discharged, 10 December 1915. Taken on strength, 5th Bn, Tel el Kebir, 7 January 1916. Transferred to 57th Bn, 17 February 1916, and taken on strength, Tel el Kebir. Found guilty, 4 March 1916, of being absent without leave from Reveille, 4 March, till apprehended by piquet, 1830, 4 March 1916: awarded 28 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeiture of a total of 29 days' pay. Admitted to 15th Australian Field Ambulance, 15 March 1916; discharged to duty. Transferred to 60th Bn, 15 March 1916, and taken on strength, Tel el Kebir. Admitted to 8th Australian Field Ambulance, Ismailia, 1 April 1916 (appendicitis); discharged to and rejoined Bn, Ferry Post, 2 April 1916. Temporarily detached to 14th Brigade Lewis Gun Course, Duntroon Plateau, 3 May 1916.
