Military Medal 'At VILLERS BRETONNEUX during the period 24th/28th April, 1918, Private RYAN (stretcher bearer) showed conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty in carrying out the duty of stretcher bearer. During the counter attack, and after the position had been consolidated, he dressed and carried wounded continuously through extremely heavy shell and machine gun fire; his timely action being the means of saving many lives. Private RYAN continued to carry out wounded without ceasing in his work for two days and nights. His bravery is worthy of special recognition.'
