' During the attack on the 8th of August 1918 East of Villers Bretonneux near Amiens, this N.C.C went forward through enemy barrage and fog to take up the duties of a sergeant who had been wounded in the early stages of the attack. He picked up the forward party and was instrumental in establishing the first relay station in the black line.He carried wounded men to safety under heavy M.G. Fire.and his fortitude and determination to get communications were excellent. though almost exhausted he took a party forward and established communication in readiness for a further attack. His courage and devotion to duty during a most trying time were excellent. He set a fine example to his men.'
