Wounded in action, 31 July 1917 (gun shot wound, thigh); admitted to 3rd Stationary Hospital, Wimereux. Transferred to England, 8 August 1917, and admitted to 2/1st Southern General Hospital, Dudley Road. Transferred to 1st Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 17 October 1917; discharged to No. 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 16 November 1917.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Runic', 20 December 1917; disembarked, 12 February 1918; discharged (medically unfit: not due to misconduct), 25 March 1918.
