His platoon was scattered in shell holes in an area that was constantly under rifle and machine gun fire. This N.C.O. regardless of danger moved about amongst his men by day and night. His coolness averted several casualties and inspired his men. By his tenacity his platoon was able to hold the ground in spite of heavy casualties and thus afforded support for the Company in front which was being attacked. His devotion to duty and his courage is deserving of special recognition.'
