Admitted to No 8 Field Ambulance, Moascar, 10 June 1916 (influenza); discharged and rejoined unit, 12 June 1916. Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 17 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 23 June 1916. Killed in action, 19 July 1916 Statement, Red Cross File No 450703, 53 Lance Corporal M. BROWN, 32nd Bn (patent, Convalescent Camp, Rouen), 7 February 1917: 'He went over the parapet close to me on the date mentioned at Fromelles and was killed before he had gone more than a few yards. He was one of the 1st men killed. He is buried in the Cemetery at Fromelles and a cross with his name on it is erected over the grave.' Second statement, 102 Pte C. HAINES, 32nd Bn (patient, 3rd London General Hospital, Wandsworth, England), 3 February 1917: 'Informant states that on July 21st. 1916 at Fleurbaix he saw Bonney's dead body, he had been killed by a shell on the night of July 19-20.
