Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Although wounded during a raid on the enemy trenches he refused to leave his post until forced to do so through exhaustion, when he insisted on walking to the dressing station in order to save a stretcher for a badly wounded man. Throughout the whole of the training and preliminary reconnaissance in connection with the raid his courage and ability were of the highest order.'
