Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during operations at PERONNE on 1st and 2nd September 1918. This man was acting as a stretcher bearer during the operations and by his unselfish spirit worked continuously throughout and was the means of bringing many wounded men back, although under extremely heavy artillery and Machine Gun fire. With utter disregard of his own personal safety he worked arduously all the time. His careful attention to the wounded and his cheerful spirit was most marked. This soldier's actions during the whole operation and his thoughts and care for the wounded were great examples to his comrades.'
