'For meritorious service and devotion to duty. Near BELLICOURT from 29th September 1918 to 1st October 1918, this Sapper acted as runner between his section Officer in the line and Company Commander. he maintained communication when all other means were stopped and although suffering from the effect of gas, he manfully carried on his duties. It was largely owing to his untiring efforts that communication was so successfully maintained throughout the operations.'
