Distinguished Service Order 'For conspicuous ability and good work. He led a small column to reconnoitre a distant enemy post, attacked it, killed several of the enemy, and brought in thirty-eight prisoners, including the officer in command. His plans were so well laid that he effected this with the loss of only one man and one horse.'
Source: 'Commonwealth Gazette' No. 129 Date: Bar to DSO 'On the 2nd October, 1918, while the brigade was bivouaced near Duma, a report was received that a large column of enemy was moving across to enter the foot hills at Kubbet I Asafi. The brigade was at once ordered out in pursuit. This officer got his regiment away in particularly quick time, and, moving rapidly for 6 miles, headed the enemy off, and charged and captured the whole column consisting of 1,450 of the enemy, 26 machine guns, 1 mountain gun, 2 field guns, and 12 automatic rifles. If this advance regiment had been twenty minutes later, the enemy could have gained the entrance to the foothills, and could easily have kept the brigade off with the machine guns and artillery they had, and so escaped. He did splendid work.'
