'During active operations near DERNANCOURT South West of ALBERT on 5th April, 1918, Lance Corporal SCOUGALL, often at great personal risk and under heavy shellfire, continually repaired the telephone wires. It was mainly due to his good work and gallant conduct that communication was maintained with Brigade Headquarters, adjoining units, and all Companies. His devotion to duty and coolness under heavy fire were an example to all.'
