Wounded in action, 26 September 1917 (shell wound, right thigh), and admitted to 6th Australian Field Ambulance; transferred to 3rd Canadian General Hospital, 26 September 1917; to 14th General Hospital, Boulogne, 28 September 1917; to England, 29 September 1917, and admitted to 1st Southern General Hospital, Edgbaston, Birmingham (right leg amputated); to 1st Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 6 November 1917; to 2nd Auxiliary Hospital, Southall, 29 November 1917. Granted furlough, 10 January-22 February 1918; readmitted to 2nd Auxiliary Hospital. Southall, 4 February 1918; granted furlough, 5-10 March 1918. Discharged to Depot, 16 Mqarch 1918; commenced return to Australia on board HS 'Wandilla' for discharge, 16 March 1918; disembarked Melbourne, 1 May 1918; discharged, 4 July 1918.
