Military Medal 'For conspicuous devotion to duty as a stretcher bearer throughout the period 3rd/5th May near NOREUIL. He was the leading spirit in organisisng attempts to bring wounded in from No Man's Land. Although persistant reports were made that stretcher bearers weere being fired on, he continued with his work. He carried 4 bad stretcher cases and 3 less serious through the wire. His example stimulated other squads with the result that several areas were speadily cleared of wounded. His courage and devotion to duty have been brought under notice by four different officers.'
