Military Medal 'On 4th October, East of YPRES, he displayed conspicuous gallantry in action. He did splendid work as Company Runner throughout the day, several times passing through the hottest part of the enemy barrage while conveying messages. on one occasion, he came upon a Section which having lost its leader, had become disorganised. He re-organised it and led it until he found an Officer to whom he handed it over. His coolness and courage greatly inspired this wavering Section and are worthy of the highest praise.'
