Military Medal 'During attack on MONTBREHAIN, north of ST. QUENTIN on 5th October, 1918, when in charge of a Lewis gun section he showed great courage and coolness, and handled his section with great skill. When his platoon was held up by enemy machine gun nests on two occasions he rushed his gun up on a flank and by rapid fire silenced the guns that were holding up the advance. During 'mopping up' operations in the village he fearlessly led the way into buildings cellars and dugouts, and throughout the whole day was conspicuous for his gallantry.'
