Proceeded overseas to France, 16 January 1918; taken on strength, 16th Bn, 26 January 1918.

Admitted to 49th Field Ambulance, 11 April 1918; transferred to 52nd Stationary Hospital, Havre, 17 April 1918 (mumps); to 1st Australian Convalescent Depot, 1 May 1918; rejoined unit, 13 July 1918.

Appointed Lance Corporal, 5 February 1919. On leave to Rome, 19 February 1919; rejoined unit, 10 March 1919; on leave to Brussels, 9 April 1919; rejoined unit, 18 April 1919.
