Admitted to Fargo Military Hospital, 22 August 1916 (influenza); marched in to 8th Training Bn from hospital, 29 August 1916.

Proceeded overseas to France, 16 September 1916; taken on strength, 29th Bn, in the field, 1 October 1916.

Admitted to 39th Casualty Clearing Station, 4 January 1917 (mumps); transferred to No 2 Stationary Hospital, Rouen, 7 January 1917; to No 2 Convalescent Depot, 24 January 1917; to 5th Australian Division Base Depot, Etaples, 8 February 1917; rejoined Bn, in the field, 14 February 1917.

Detached to Signalling School, 20 February 1917; rejoined Bn, 27 February 1917.

Admitted to 8th Australian Field Ambulance, 6 October 1918 (boils, left knee), and transferred same day to 50th Casualty Clearing Station, and thence to Ambulance Train No 30; admitted to 3rd Stationary hospital, Rouen, 7 October 1918; transferred to England, 10 October 1918, and admitted to 2/1st Southern General Hospital, Handley, Birmingham, 14 October 1918. Discharged on furlough, 9 November 1918, to report to No 4 Command Depot, Hurdcott, 25 November 1918.

Congratulatory Note, Australian Corps Routine Orders No 265, 3 November 1918: 'The Corps Commander wishes to express his appreciation of the gallant services rendered during recent operastions.'
