Trooper Sheen initially enlisted with the 8th Light Horse Regiment, 3rd Reinforcement, and embarked on 8 Febrary 1915, regimental number 707. On 4 May 1915, he was recorded as "Venereal. Invalided to Australia per HMT Ceramic" from Suez. He rejoined the AIF, regimental number 1109,with the rank of Gunner, 4th Field Artillery Brigade. Embarked from Australia 9 September 1915. 14 March 1916 transferred to Divisional Artillery Column, Zeitoun. Embarked at Alexandria 20 March 1916, disembarked Marseilles 27 March 1916. Admitted to hospital in France with mumps; transferred to England. Rejoined 2nd Divisional Artillery Column in France 29 July 1916; transferred to 22nd Field Artillery Brigade 22 August 1916. 30 March 1918 wounded in action (gassed) 1 June 1918 Transferred to 4th Field Artillery Brigade. He was in and out of hospital until he left the theatre of war on 30 Decmber 1918 for his return to Australia from England per "Berrima" . |
