Military Medal 'During the operations east of YPRES, 20/22nd September, 1917, Pte. SHIPWAY as a Brigade Scout rendered most valuable assistance by the cool and courageous manner in which he carried out reconnoissance work. As one of the Brigade tape-laying party his coolness under enemy artillery fire and in close proximity to enemy forward posts, helped greatly towards the success of this initial enterprise. Later he left our front line immediately after the first wave and established a Brigade Observation Post in GLENCORSE WOOD at which post he stayed during the two ensuing days, and sent back most valuable and definite information concerning the advance of our own troops and the assembling of enemy troops for counter attack, notwithstanding the fact that the enemy's shelling was very severe around his post.'
