Military Medal 'At HANEBEKE WOOD on 20th September 1917 this man showed admirable spirit and great determination. He was lost early in the attack and joined another Company after having been buried by a shell. He assisted in clearing several blockhouses and when he rejoined his company and found only one officer left, helped by directing the men, in consolidating operations, and by organising dumps, etc. He then began stretcher bearing and when three other bearers had been hit, carried one man out through a heavy barrage.'
