Military Medal 'For magnificent bravery and devotion to duty during operations near ZONNEBEKE on 26th September, 1917. This stretcher bearer was the subject of admiration for his courage and self sacrifice in going out under intense artillery and machine gun fire and bringing in our wounded, casualties among stretcher bearers were unfortunately very heavy but this did not deter the others from promtly and cheerfully answering every call. This soldier is deserving of a high award.'
