Military Medal

'On 4th October 1917, whilst the 51st Battery were in action, Eat of WESTHOEK, supporting the advance of our Infantry, Gunner SIMS though a specialist, volunteered to assist in the supply of ammunition to gun pits which were running short. The Battery position was being heavily shelled and Gunner SIMS materially assisted in the supply of ammunition to the guns at a time when it was necessary that there should be no diminution in the fire. The fearless manner in which he carried out his self imposed task set a splendid example to the remainder of the Battery. His courage and devotion to duty are deserving of special recognition.'
