Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry. During the night of 16th September 1918 near ROISEL this N.C.O. was in charge of 4 Teams and Wagons engaged in the transport of ammunition when his party came under an intense concentration of enemy shell fire. Although several horses were killed and wounded as well as some of the Drivers this N.C.O. succeeded by his cool courage and skilfulness in preventing a stampede, by going in among the terrified horses under heavy shell fire and cutting out those which were wounded and killed and getting the remainder clear of the area being shelled. He set a splendid example of courage to the party under his charge and his action undoubtedly saved several additional casualties.'
