Military Cross

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. This officer led a party for burying cable soon after the attack commenced, and completed his task very speedily though the work was effected through heavy and constant shelling. Through his personal example, splendid disregard of danger and energy the task was completed.'

Bar to Military Cross

'On 2nd September 1918, at Halle, near Peronne, he had charge of the cable waggon detachment laying lines from the west side of the river to the brigade forward station. Great difficulty was experienced owing to heavy shell fire. His courage, energy, and skill in this dangerous task, and the splendid example he set his men, were responsible for the lines being ready at zero hour. They were frequently destroyed by shelling, but, as they were actively patrolled by him at the most dangerous places, good communications were kept throughout the whole operations.'
