Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 16 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 23 June 1916. Wounded in action, 20 July 1916. Previous report of wounded now, 28 July 1916, to be reported as 'Killed in Action, 20 July 1916'. Buried Eaton Hall Cemetery by Reverend J. Green, 20 July 1916. Statement, Red Cross File No 2520702, 2037 Pte E.G.W. KING, C Company, 31st Bn (patient, No 4 Australian General Hospital, Randwick), 27 December 1917: 'He was killed outright by the same shell which wounded me. This was within 20 yards from our own line as we were advancing. I saw him fall but I was able to carry on and as we returned the next morning I came across his body.
