Proceeded overseas to France, 13 December 1916; joined 17th Bn, in the field, 18 December 1916. Admitted to 7th Australian Field Ambulance, 6 February 1917; transferred to 32nd Stationary Hospital, Wimereux, 7 February 1917 (bronchitis); to England, 9 February 1917, and admitted to Lakenham Military Hospital, Norwich, 10 February 1917; marched in to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, from hospital, 2 March 1917. Marched in to No 3 Command Depot, Hurdcott, from Weymouth, 22 March 1917. Found guilty, 7 July 1917, of being absent without leave from 8 am, 29 June, till 8.30 pm, 4 July 1917: awarded 21 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeited 29 days' pay. Proceeded overseas to France, 16 July 1917; rejoined 17th Bn, in the field, 30 October 1917. Admitted to 47th Casualty Clearing Station, 22 May 1918 (bronchitis); transferred to 3rd General Hospital, Le Treport, 14 July 1918; to England, 21 July 1918, and admitted to 1st Eastern General Hospital, Cambridge, 22 July 1918; discharged on furlough, 30 August 1918, to report to No 1 Command Depot, 13 September 1918.
