Meritorious Service Medal 'For courage and devotion to duty. This man rendered good service at POLYGON WOOD on 26th September 1917 where his gun position was blown up. he moved his gun and team to another position without much loss of time and succeeded in killing many of the enemy. During the operations at BROODESINDE in October 1917 he displayed great courage and endurance in carrying up ammunition under heavy shell fire when his gun and run short of ammunition. His courage and example did much to inspire his comrades to greater efforts under very adverse conditions.'
