Military Medal 'On 7th June, 1917, during operations south of MESSINES this man showed splendid pluck and determination whilst carrying despatches from the BLACK LINE top the rear. On several occasions when the enemy barrage was at its heaviest, he succeeded in taking back important information from his Officer to Battalion Headquarters. He rendered excellent service throughout the operation, and set a fine example to his comrades by his gallant action.'
