Military Medal 'During the operations on 8th August, 1918, in the neigbourhood of HAMEL, Lance Corporal SLOANE was invaluable in steadying the new men of the parties over which he had command. He organised parties of prisoners to carry patients and was untiring in his efforts. On the night of 9th August, 1918, in the neighbourhood of CERISY, when it was heard that several men in the surrounding artillery units had been hit, he volunteered to lead three men to the position through the heavy bombing and aerial machine gun fire. This he successfully did and brought back all the wounded. This action at the time put fresh confidence into the remainder of the bearers, who at this time were becoming highly strung.'
