Military Cross

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in localizing and controlling a serious outbreak of fire, and taking a leading part in clearing ammunition from a neighbouring dump, although hit in the wrist by an exploding shell. He was largely instrumental in saving the remainder of the dump from destruction, displaying splendid coolness and power of organization in the midst of exploding ammunition.'
