War service: Western Front Embarked Sydney, 4 September 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 29 October 1916, and marched in to 9th Training Bn. Proceeded overseas to France, 20 December 1916; taken on strength, 34th Bn, in the field, 18 January 1917. Reallotted Regimental Number 1797A. Wounded in action, Messines, Belgium, 7 June 1917 (gassed), and admitted to 9th Field Ambulance and transferred same day to 2nd Australian Casualty Clearing Station; to 47th General Hospital, Le Treport, 8 June 1917 (suffocation: poison gas); to 3rd Australian Division Base Depot, Havre, 31 July 1917. Found guilty, Havre, 7 August 1917, of (1) being in town without a pass; (2) being out of bounds: awarded 6 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeited 10 days' pay. Rejoined Bn, in the field, 21 August 1917. Killed in action, 3-5 April 1918. Medals: British War Medal, Victory Medal |
