Military Medal

'On 5th October, 1918 near MONTBREHAIN, north of ST. QUENTIN, he held the objective with his section under heavy point blank fire directed by the enemy from a strong post about 350 yards distant, until artillery fire subdued the enemy and allowed these men to dig in. This Corporal's tenacity in 'handing on' and his brave example to his men largely contributed to the retention of initial gains of ground.'
